Australians back gas profits tax and fuel excise extension poll shows
A majority of Australians support taxing gas export profits and extending the fuel excise cut, according to a Guardian Essential poll of 1,067 voters. Sixty-eight percent want the temporary 26-cent petrol tax reduction extended beyond June, while 57% back a new gas profits tax. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ruled out a gas tax Wednesday, calling the campaign "dishonest.".
