Rare hybrid turtle hatchlings discovered on Queensland beach
Rare hybrid sea turtle hatchlings have hatched at Mon Repos, Queensland's largest loggerhead nesting site. Researchers discovered 15 hybrids—crosses between loggerhead and green turtles—in January-March monitoring, with two of 42 hatchlings in one clutch being hybrids. Two specimens were sent to Sea World for research into reproductive viability, as the species lineages separated 50 million years.
