The HSC convention that might be past its use-by date
NSW education leaders are calling for the Higher School Certificate's standard three-hour exams to be substantially shortened, arguing the format unchanged since 1967 is unnecessary and may hinder performance. Anglican Schools Corporation chief Peter Fowler questioned why exams exceed university standards. Education Minister Prue Car said there are no immediate plans to change the HSC without consultation.
