Minns calls for tobacco excise overhaul after $62 billion hole emerges
NSW Premier Chris Minns called Wednesday for an overhaul of tobacco excise after the federal budget revealed a $62 billion revenue collapse over five years. Treasury now expects to collect just $2.1 billion in tobacco excise by 2029-30, down from original forecasts of $16.8 billion, as consumers switch to illicit cigarettes supplied by organized crime.
