Sonny Rollins, colossus of jazz saxophone, dies aged 95
Sonny Rollins, one of jazz's greatest saxophonists and a bebop generation icon, died Monday at his Woodstock, New York home aged 95. With over 60 albums released since the late 1940s, Rollins collaborated with Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane, pioneering melodic improvisation that redefined jazz. Saxophonist Branford Marsalis called him "the greatest improviser in the history of jazz.".
