Two Marine Rescue volunteers die in capsized rescue boat off Ballina
Marine Rescue NSW's Ballina unit lost two volunteers, Bill Ewen, 78, and Frank Petsch, 62, when their rescue vessel capsized in 2.5-metre swells Tuesday while responding to a distressed yacht. The 10-metre boat BA30 overturned while crossing South Ballina bar, trapping crew members. Four of six volunteers reached shore; three remain hospitalized. The yacht's sole occupant.
