Brisbane braced for storms and flash flooding Thursday as an atmospheric river system drenched southeast Queensland, days before winter. The slow-moving low-pressure system, fed by tropical air and abnormally warm Tasman Sea moisture, could dump triple the region's average May rainfall. The city recorded 60 millimeters in 24 hours last week, already double its monthly average.
