Helena Teede renames polycystic ovary syndrome to better reflect metabolic disorder

Australian endocrinologist Helena Teede announced Tuesday that polycystic ovary syndrome is now called polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS. The 14-year study involving 22,000 respondents found the old name was misleading since ovarian cysts aren't the primary issue. The change aims to improve diagnosis and care for the one in eight women globally affected by this hormonal disorder.
