Two Victoria police officers killed in armed confrontation at Porepunkah property
Two Victoria police officers were fatally shot in August 2025 when gunman Dezi Freeman opened fire during a search warrant execution at his Porepunkah property. Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart died in the shootout; two other officers were injured. Freeman claimed self-defence when arrested seven months later.
