Australia's 2026-27 budget allocates $85.2 million to fast-track skills assessments and licensing for migrant trades workers amid a major building push. The government will also reform the permanent migration points test to select better educated, higher-skilled and younger migrants. Net overseas migration is forecast to decline by 50,000 in 2026-27 after reaching 295,000 in 2025-26.
