These salmon got high on cocaine. That wasn’t the craziest part
In a 2022 study, environmental toxicologist Jack Brand found that salmon exposed to cocaine swim faster and travel farther than sober fish. Fish receiving benzoylecgonine, a cocaine byproduct, swam nearly twice as far as their unaltered counterparts. The research highlights potential ecological impacts of drug pollution on aquatic ecosystems.
