New mental health hotline to end police culture of ‘toughing things out’
Queensland Police launched a 24/7 mental health helpline on Tuesday after a 100-day review revealed up to 14 percent of officers suffer post-traumatic stress disorder. The $5.5 million Cop Care service addresses a culture where officers feared seeking help would damage their careers. Police union president Shane Prior said more Queensland officers die by suicide than in.
