Thousands rattled by earthquake in Orange, central-west NSW
A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Orange in central-west NSW at 8.19pm AEST on Tuesday, shaking the east coast as far as Batemans Bay. Geoscience Australia received over 2000 reports of the tremors, which a senior seismologist classified as weak to light. Dr. Phil Cummins noted this was a significant earthquake for the region's seismic history.
