Maugean skates released after more than two years in captivity
Two Maugean skates were released into Macquarie Harbour on Tasmania's west coast after more than two years in captivity on April 30. The male and female skate, taken from the harbour in December 2023, produced approximately 80 hatchlings for research purposes. Researchers say lessons from the release will guide future introductions of captive-born skates into the endangered species' native habitat.
