Rescuers free young whale after 24-hour stranding ordeal
A juvenile humpback whale was successfully freed from a sandbar at Wallis Lake on the NSW mid north coast after being stranded for 24 hours. Rescuers used slings to tow the whale, which weighs about 12 tonnes, back to safety around 3 p.m. on Monday. The animal is now being guided towards the ocean by marine conservation vessels.
