Disgraced barrister tried to overcharge clients who had lost life savings
Former barrister Norman O'Bryan was spared jail Thursday after attempting to overcharge Banksia Securities clients whose investments collapsed, owing $660 million. The 68-year-old, once an Order of Australia recipient and Senior Counsel, was ordered to complete 600 hours of community work over four years. O'Bryan tried to inflate his legal fees to $2.35 million in the 2017 class action settlement.
