Fortescue pays record $150 million to Yindjibarndi for destroyed heritage sites
An Australian federal court ordered mining company Fortescue to pay Yindjibarndi traditional owners $150 million in compensation, the largest native title payout on record. Justice Stephen Burley found the Solomon Hub iron ore mine destroyed 140 heritage sites and caused profound cultural and spiritual harm since operations began in 2013.
