Molly Johnson’s legend lives on in opera’s world premiere at Glasshouse Theatre
Leah Purcell's "The Drover's Wife" premiered as an opera at Brisbane's Glasshouse Theatre, featuring music by composer George Palmer that blends Western and First Nations styles. Soprano Nina Korbe, Purcell's first cousin once removed, sings the lead role of Molly Johnson, a First Nations woman facing domestic violence and racism in 1893 Australian outback. The production concludes QPAC's inaugural season.
