Australian university tutorials swell to double ideal size, harming student learning
More than half of Australian university tutorials now exceed 30 students, double the ideal size of 10-19, according to a National Tertiary Education Union survey of 4,000 staff members. Seventy-eight percent of respondents reported worsening student engagement and learning outcomes since 2019. The overcrowding follows the introduction of the Job Ready Graduates scheme, which cut university funding significantly.
