Could gene-edited ‘super quolls’ fight back against cane toads?
Colossal Biosciences plans to breed genetically modified northern quolls resistant to cane toad toxin, aiming for the first litter within a year. The firm, in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, has identified a single nucleotide alteration that can make quolls immune to the toxic toads. Without intervention, these quolls risk extinction in about a decade.
