Petrol could top $2 a litre by June as excise winds up
Australia's fuel excise discount expires June 30, Treasurer Jim Chalmers confirmed Wednesday, potentially pushing unleaded petrol above $2.15 per litre. The 32-cent reduction, introduced May 30 to ease cost-of-living pressures following Middle East conflict disruptions, will not be extended. Current Sydney prices average $1.85 per litre, but analysts warn further geopolitical tensions could drive costs higher.
