Despite growing up online, students' digital literacy is declining
Australian students recorded their worst-ever digital literacy results, with only 37 percent of year 10 students reaching proficiency in national testing conducted in May 2025. Nearly 10,000 students were assessed on creating presentations, searching information, and online safety. The proficiency rate for year 10 students has fallen almost 30 percentage points since 2008, despite increased device usage among young people.
