Outback town in lockdown after students bring toxic metal to school
Students in Cunnamulla, Australia discovered mercury vials at a landfill and brought them to their school Wednesday, forcing authorities to lock down parts of the outback town of 1,000 people. Emergency crews from Brisbane, including hazmat specialists, cordoned off the school, hospital, homes and other sites for atmospheric testing and decontamination. Officials suspect illegal medical waste dumping caused the contamination.
