After football, Daniher’s spirit shone in the fight of his life
Neale Daniher, Essendon's youngest captain who coached Melbourne to the 2000 grand final, died May 25 at 65. Diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2014, he devoted his remaining years to FightMND, co-founding the annual Big Freeze fundraiser. His advocacy for MND patients earned him Officer of the Order of Australia in 2021.
