EV tax breaks to be slashed from April next year
Australia will phase out generous electric vehicle tax breaks from April 2027, saving the government $1.7 billion over five years. The fringe benefits tax waiver will be restricted to vehicles costing $75,000 or less, up from the current $91,387 threshold. Energy Minister Chris Bowen said the change reflects increased EV affordability, with about 10 models now available under $40,000.
