State Department revokes passports for parents owing $100,000 in child support
The US State Department began revoking passports Friday for parents owing $100,000 or more in child support, affecting approximately 2,700 passport holders. The program will expand to include those owing more than $2,500. Since February's announcement, hundreds of parents resolved their arrears. The policy, rooted in a 1996 law, has collected $657 million in back payments since 1998.
