Property investor lending hit a decade high. Now that’s about to change
Investor home lending reached its highest share in nearly a decade at 40.3 percent in March, compared to 17.4 percent for first home buyers. Tuesday's federal budget will limit negative gearing tax breaks to newly built properties and scrap the capital gains tax discount, aiming to help 75,000 first home buyers over ten years.
