Minns calls for tobacco excise overhaul after $62 billion hole emerges
NSW Premier Chris Minns called Tuesday for a tobacco excise overhaul after the federal budget revealed a $62 billion revenue collapse over five years. Treasury now expects just $2.1 billion in tobacco excise by 2029-30, down from original forecasts of $16.8 billion, as illegal cigarettes supplied by organised crime capture market share.
