Albanese gambles on support from younger Australians as he dramatically shifts wealth
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese overhauled negative gearing, capital gains tax, and trusts in the federal budget Tuesday to shift wealth toward younger homebuyers. The changes will raise about $100 billion over a decade while providing a $250 annual tax offset to wage earners from 2027. Negative gearing will apply only to newly built homes, targeting an additional 75,000 first-time buyers.
