Three seriously injured as helicopter ditches into water off Horn Island
Three people sustained serious injuries when a Robinson R44 helicopter lost engine power and ditched into water off Horn Island in Queensland's Torres Strait on October 8. All three suffered chemical burns from aviation gasoline while waiting approximately 50 minutes for rescue. Australia's aviation watchdog recommended that workers regularly flying over water receive helicopter underwater escape training.
