Tougher penalties to protect NSW’s heritage jewels

New South Wales will update its 50-year-old heritage act to impose harsher penalties on property owners who allow demolition by neglect, Heritage Minister Penny Sharpe announced on Tuesday. Among the properties in question are Katoomba’s Paragon Café and Goulburn’s Kenmore Hospital, with new legislation scheduled for introduction later this year to strengthen protections for heritage sites.
