The plan to kickstart the dead city centre of Geelong
Civic and business leaders in Geelong urged the state government to establish a special economic zone to revitalize the underdeveloped city center. Committee for Geelong chief executive Michael Johnston emphasized the need for residential development to accommodate the growing population, which surpassed 295,000 last year. The state has targeted over 128,000 new homes in Greater Geelong by 2051.
