The press, the PMs and the high times and hijinks of parliament

Australia's federal press gallery marked 125 years since journalists first covered parliament in 1901. The gallery grew from 30 members in Melbourne to over 250 in Canberra, with women now comprising at least half its ranks. The institution's legendary Non-Members' Bar, where politicians and journalists mingled and leaked stories, closed in the mid-1990s, replaced by a childcare centre.
