Inland Rail’s final stages shelved after shock $45 billion price tag revealed
Australia shelved the final stages of its troubled Inland Rail freight project indefinitely after costs ballooned to $45 billion, triple the original $14.5 billion budget. The 1700-kilometre line from Melbourne to Brisbane will now focus only on the Beveridge-to-Parkes section, expected complete by end-2025.
