Why temperature records are being not only broken but smashed
UK temperatures exceeded 35 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, surpassing the May record by more than 2 degrees, as an unprecedented spring heatwave gripped western Europe. France, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland all recorded abnormal heat. Scientists attribute the extreme records partly to human-caused climate change, which has accelerated European warming to 0.56 degrees Celsius per decade.
