Modelling suggests 'second wave' of algal bloom in Spencer Gulf
Oceanographer Jochen Kaempf's modelling predicts a second wave of harmful algal bloom will move through South Australia's Spencer Gulf over the next few months. The Karenia cristata bloom, which has plagued SA's coastlines since March 2025, is expected to spread northward and persist longer than initially thought. Boston Bay has recorded elevated toxin levels at 372,480 cells per litre.
