Vietnam veteran receives Medal for Gallantry after leading bayonet charge
Vietnam veteran John O'Halloran received Australia's Medal for Gallantry at a Perth ceremony for leading a fixed bayonet charge against a Vietcong stronghold during Operation Bribie nearly 60 years ago. The then-21-year-old second lieutenant commanded the most decorated Australian platoon to serve in Vietnam. Only 70 Australians have received this third-highest military honour since 1991.
