Budget squeeze forces integrity agencies to shelve investigations
Victoria's anti-corruption commission and ombudsman warned Tuesday that budget cuts will force them to shelve investigations and leave public maladministration unchecked. IBAC faces a $6 million deficit while the Ombudsman is $1.2 million short of operating costs. Both agencies called for independent budget-setting, saying governments cannot be trusted to adequately fund their own oversight.
