Police officers accused of alleged assault of mentally ill prisoner
Two Queensland police officers contested charges of assault and deprivation of liberty over a January 2024 watch house incident involving Charlton Bong, 25, who was experiencing mental health issues. Senior Constables Andrew Couchman, 53, and Ulrich Weiss, 45, allegedly tasered and restrained Bong at Mareeba watch house. Their trial is scheduled for September 2024 at Cairns District Court.
