The 25-year ocean mystery solved with a nod to Mr Snuffleupagus
Australian fish scientist David Harasti discovered a new species of ghost pipefish off Papua New Guinea in 2002, but spent 20 years searching for a specimen. Scientists finally found two hairy ghost pipefish on Australia's Great Barrier Reef in 2020. The species was formally named Solenostomus snuffleupagus, after Sesame Street's Mr Snuffleupagus, with approval from Sesame Workshop.
