Kyrgyz filmmaker's drama about immigrant life wins Medellín festival audience award
Kyrgyz filmmaker Nurzhamal Karamoldoeva's "Only Heaven Knows," shot in Chicago with a mostly non-professional cast, won audiences at the Alternativa Film Festival in Medellín. The drama follows a nail salon worker investigating her truck driver husband's disappearance and hidden debts. Karamoldoeva says ICE raids would make such a film about undocumented immigrants impossible to produce today.
