170m chimneys come crashing down as power station demolition begins
Demolition of the Liddell Power Station began in NSW's Hunter Valley with explosives bringing down its two iconic 170-metre chimneys after 52 years of operation. About 700 holes were drilled and packed with explosives to safely collapse the structures in a 10-second event. AGL plans to develop the site into a renewable energy hub, including a completed 500-megawatt battery facility.
