The 25-year ocean mystery solved with a nod to Mr Snuffleupagus
Australian scientist David Harasti identified a new species of ghost pipefish off Papua New Guinea on Tuesday, ending a 20-year quest. Named Solenostomus snuffleupagus after Sesame Street's Mr Snuffleupagus, the hairy creature eluded researchers for two decades before specimens were found on the Great Barrier Reef in 2020. The discovery was published in the Journal of Fish Biology.
