No 'plan B' for submarines if AUKUS fails, says defence minister
Australia's Defence Minister Richard Marles rejected calls for a backup plan if the AUKUS nuclear submarine deal fails, saying abandoning the strategy would leave the country in an "unthinkable" position without new submarines. Speaking at Perth's Indian Ocean Defence and Security Conference, Marles said "chopping and changing" would mean giving up entirely on acquiring replacements for aging Collins-class vessels.
